Lamps and Lights has been a trusted online retailer of decorative lighting solutions for many years. Operating on the WooCommerce platform, their e-commerce store featured a substantial degree of customisation. Following the company’s acquisition in 2025 by Lightwave UK, Poseidon Design was commissioned to migrate the site to a new hosting environment and perform a comprehensive overhaul.

Upon initial assessment, it became clear that the installation had been neglected for over two years. The WordPress core, WooCommerce framework, and all associated plugins were outdated by at least 24 months. Furthermore, the website was still running on a legacy version of PHP that had reached end-of-life status and was no longer supported or secure.

The modernisation process was extensive and technically challenging. Updating the site required weeks of careful work, as each stage introduced critical compatibility issues. Legacy code conflicted with the latest WordPress standards, custom-built plugins failed under PHP 8.x, and the site’s theme – since completely rewritten by its original developers – caused significant front-end breakdowns upon updating.

The site had also been heavily affected by spam, particularly in the form of fake comments and product reviews, which cluttered the backend and undermined customer trust. To address this, we implemented a robust suite of anti-spam measures, including advanced filtering tools and tighter moderation controls. These protections significantly reduced spam activity and restored the integrity of content across the site.

Another significant challenge we encountered was the consolidation of multiple disconnected accounts across analytics platforms, product feed services, and social media channels. Over the years, various third-party tools and integrations had been set up under different user credentials and organisational structures, leading to fragmentation and data inconsistency. Reclaiming access, verifying ownership, and streamlining these accounts into a unified ecosystem required considerable coordination. This process involved reconciling conflicting tracking configurations in Google Analytics, re-establishing product feeds with platforms like Google Merchant Center and Meta, and aligning social media assets under a single brand identity. The end result was a clean, centralised digital infrastructure that supports consistent reporting, campaign management, and strategic decision-making.

Despite these complexities, the site was successfully restored and improved through a systematic and thorough approach:

  • All deprecated and unnecessary components were removed
  • Robust new security protocols were implemented to harden the site against vulnerabilities
  • Server-side caching was enabled to significantly enhance performance and load times
  • A refreshed design was introduced, featuring a new colour scheme and visual layout
  • Secure credit and debit card payment gateways were integrated
  • A broad set of improvements were made to both front-end and back-end systems to optimise user experience and administrative workflows

This project demonstrates Poseidon Design’s capability to modernise legacy web infrastructure, ensuring both functionality and future scalability.
